Features of Gate Valve

A gate valve's straight, unobstructed path leads to minimal pressure loss through the valve.

A gate valve takes up a small amount of space along the length of the piping.

These valves work well with larger-diameter piping due to their simple construction. They are relatively easy to scale to larger sizes.

A gate valve's simple design results in the valve being relatively durable.

Gate valves operate slowly, reducing the possibility of water hammer in the system.

Maintaining of Gate Valve

Regular inspection

Periodically inspect the valve for signs of wear, corrosion, or damage. Check for leaks around the threads and the valve body.

01

Operate the valve

Occasionally operate the valve to ensure it opens and closes smoothly. This prevents the valve from seizing due to infrequent use.

02

Lubrication

If applicable, lubricate the valve stem and other moving parts to ensure smooth operation. Use a lubricant that is compatible with the valve materials and the fluid being controlled.

03

Clean the valve

Keep the valve and surrounding area clean to prevent debris from interfering with its operation. If the valve is exposed to harsh environments, consider protective measures to shield it from damage.

04

Check for corrosion

If the valve is used in a corrosive environment, regularly check for signs of corrosion and take appropriate action, such as applying a protective coating or replacing the valve if necessary.

Installation Precautions of Gate Valve

If there are gasket leaks, remedy them as quickly as possible.

Never force them shut with a wrench or crowbar.

It is best to open them slowly. This will prevent hydraulic shock in the pipe.

It is also best to close them slowly. In this case, doing so serves to free up trapped dirt and sediment.

Lubricate the valve from time to time to reduce erosio

Always try to cool the system down when closing a pipe through which hot liquids are flowing, but only once you have made sure that the valves are properly closed.

Usage of Gate Valve

Slurries

This valve has an unobstructed passageway for the fluid, so the slurry can easily pass through the valve.

Viscous media

The unobstructed passageway allows viscous media like light grease and oil to flow easily. The valve can be pigged, a common cleaning method for these applications. In addition, valves for these applications are typically on or off for long periods.

Water gate valves

Water gate valves are commonly used for water applications since flow control is typically not done. The valve can be fully open or fully closed, allowing for proper water control.

FAQ

Q: What is the advantage of using a gate valve?

A: Gate valves offer a very small fluid resistance. The minimal fluid resistance is due to the straight inner media channel of the body which allows the medium to flow directly through the valve without changing direction. As such, the flow's path is unobstructed.

Q: What is the main purpose of a gate valve?

A: Gate valves are used for full open or full close control, providing low flow resistance and reliable shutoff.

Q: Can your gate valves achieve zero leakage?

A: Yes. Our valves meet ISO 5208 Rate A standards. For higher requirements, we can offer third-party leakage testing reports.

Q: Can you partially open a gate valve?

A: Fully Open or Closed Position: Gate valves are designed for on/off services. They are prone to damage when not fully opened or fully closed. Not for Throttling: Using a gate valve to partially open or close (throttle) the flow can lead to damage.

Q: Does flow direction matter on a gate valve?

A: There is no restriction on the flow direction of a gate valve. However, note that the flow direction of fluid is restricted when a vent hole is provided.

Q: How far to open a gate valve?

A: Opening Or Closing A Gate Valve Properly Avoids Valve Damage
A typical 1″ main control valve for a water line will take about six full turns to fully open. Stop turning as soon as there is any resistance. Turning the handle or stem too far with excessive pressure can cause damage and very often will cause a leak.
